A cameroonian to follow : an innovative farmer RAHMANE BIDIMA

I appreciate, I compliment, I carbon the idea, the know-how

 Who is Rahmane Bidima?

I am a 36 year old young Cameroonian living in Foumbot and passionate about agriculture. I
developed work techniques to improve the working conditions of local agriculture.

 Talk about your activity

I work in Koutaba plantations (western region) and I develop projects for individuals who want to invest in agriculture.

Why and how did you start this project?

Six years ago when I returned from my unsuccessful adventures in Europe, I decided to move to the
village and start farming in Foumbot I began cultivating small plots and setting up new working techniques such as the “agricultural bike”, an instrument that permits to work standing and to do without the traditional hoe. I equally introduced strawberry cultivation, for market purposes and succeeded in developing the apple and grape culture in the English-speaking area.

Dans 3 ans je souhaiterai acquérir de nouvelles parcelles pour étendre mes activités, promouvoir la culture de la pomme et du raisin au Cameroun

What are the difficulties you face in the day-to-day management and development of your business?

As difficulties encountered, there is the transportation of harvest products, limited financial means for the purchase of logistics and irrigation equipment, climate instability, labour force and difficulties in acquiring space for agriculture in case of expansion.

What place does social media have in your business?

I admit that without social media, I would not have had the name I have through out.  My activity is 100% based on publications made on social media like Facebook.

What do you project for the next 3 years in your activity?

In the next 3 years I would like to acquire new plots to expand my activities, promote the cultivation In the next 3 years I would like to acquire new plots to expand my activities, promote the cultivatiof apples and grapes in Cameroon and grow large-scale strawberries.

What advice would you give to a young entrepreneur in the field of agriculture?

To a young person who wants to start farming, I advise to gain experience, to be patient and persevering in order to respond to the local market.

If you had to do it again, would you change your activity?

If I were to do it again, of course I will because I am a passionate, a lover of agriculture!
